California Sunrise

There's something about vintage surfing pictures that make me feel geared up for summer and very patriotic. I especially love the classic 50’s “bathing suits” (especially these here, here, and here, so very Ms. Liz Taylor).

I imagine all the young men in one group, fag in one hand, their long board in the other, trying to court a group of ladies in large cat-eye sunglasses from across the beach.

And, who doesn’t love these hot wheels?! Could you imagine being picked up on a summery first date in one of these bad boys and driving along the Pacific Coast Highway?

p.s. check out this up and coming band, Dirty Gold, whom which I am currently obsessing over their video. I just missed them playing live in New York. Daaaaaaaaang!

Allons-y!

I wish when I was 14 someone had pulled me out of French class and told me to stop doodling my crush's name and PAY ATTENTION. After four years of taking French and two visits to the country, I remember very little about the language. C'est tragique, I know.

However, that doesn't mean I can't lust about dancing to this catchy Parisian number in these adorable flats with this foxy garçon. Ooh la la, indeed!

salty.

I have had an absolute OB.SESS.ION with beach wavy hair for years now. This wasn't always the case and for a long time I was convinced that my sassy-self required short, sassy hair. One summer, out of sheer laziness, my hair grew out a little long and lo and behold, I discovered I had natural wave that I had unwittingly been chopping off. idiot.

Gorgeous! Unfortunately, this is not my hair.

My first beach-wave product was John Frieda Beach Blonde Ocean Waves Spray and it was only about $4.99 at the drugstore. Unfortunately, the unthinkable happened and it was discontinued about 6 years ago. Still a legend.

Since then, I have scoured for an adequate replacement, even resulting to mixing my own (half salt water, half leave-in conditioner. disastrous).

yikes. when you put all of the products together that i've tried over the years, things get real.

This summer, I have finally found a close competitor! Garnier Fructis's Style Surf Hair Paste. Don't let the word "paste" turn you off. Just a dime size, made my hair look like I had been swimming in the ocean all day, without it feeling crunchy or greasy.
